You who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground…You trample on the poor…Seek good, not evil that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph….I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies.Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Amos 5:7, 11a, 14-15, 21-22
I can’t help but wonder! This sounds a lot like the American church. We claim that God is with us but is he really?!?
Have we not chased him away with our programs, offended him with our impurities and compromised morality, contradicted his word with our theologies, confined him to the proverbial “box” of “it’s always been this way”, and left him out of our planning sessions?!?
How is it that we claim God is with us when we really want nothing to do with him except in name only?
It’s time to return church! Seek HIM with all your heart, confess your personal and corporate sins, desire HIS will and not your own.
I am convinced that until we do these things in sustained and earnest prayer we will not be effective ministers nor will our nation receive the healing it so desperately needs.
So join me: on our knees, people of God!
