“I have paid careful attention. They do not speak what is right. No one regrets his evil, asking, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone has stayed his course like a horse rushing into battle.”Jeremiah 8:6 HCSB
People do not like being confronted with their sin! We would rather traipse around fumbling in blindness. When a well meaning, and true brother or sister tells us we are doing wrong we call it “judging”, “intolerance”, and “hate speech”.
How can we be so blinded to our sin that we continue to rush into it even though we are rushing toward a cliff we do not see?!? What’s truly tragic is that there are ALWAYS warnings along the way; signs that point us in the other direction. Yet, those who are caught in the chains of a sinful lifestyle with no regret suffer from consciences that are burned! And they will not listen!
I pray you are not in this category. I pray that when someone points out something that is not right in your life or attitude you will stop and contemplate the truth in their statement. I pray you will have ears to listen and a heart to understand.I pray the same for myself!
On the flip side, let us not be afraid to stand up for truth and righteousness. Do not fear what people may call you when you stand against something that is flat out wrong! Do not fear what they may do! Let us not continue to dress the gaping wound of our society as though it were not serious (Jer 8:11). Let us also intercede for those who speak truth to, that they may hear what God has to say to them. Amen.
