The LORD himself would say to you,
“Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” (Isaiah 50:10)
I think sometimes God “turns” out the proverbial lights on us to remind us he is in charge, to let us know that without him we would never be able to see a thing, to show himself as the one and only true light!
Why? Because we don’t HAVE to trust when we THINK we can see! But when it is pitch black and God only gives us one step after the last then faith and trust come into play! Not to mention constant communication.
There is, however, a hefty warning that goes along with this great promise. Do not try to light your own fire when you are in the dark, for that is a very dangerous plan to follow. The Lord says,
“But now, all you who light fires and provide yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of your fires and of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from my hand: You will lie down in torment.” (Isaiah 50:11)
I know that I’ve certainly been guilty of tying to light my own path…and sleep was not an easy thing when I was in that mind set. Graciously, God does allow us to learn those lessons; he knows what we are made of, yet still longs communicate with us in a personal way!
Allow the LORD himself to be your light. It sure does provide for better sleep!
