Let those who love the LORD hate evil,
for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Light is shed upon the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name.
Do you hate evil? Does it loath you and turn your stomach? Do you regret and mourn over the sin of yourself, your family, your people?
Loving God requires us to hate and abhor evil, and seek righteousness and holiness in all we do and say! (Romans 12:9-21) In Proverbs 8:13 God himself defines what it means to hate evil: “to fear the LORD is to hate evil.”
When I think this characterizes the American church. If it did we wouldn’t allow evil to continue in our midst, we wouldn’t ‘sweep’ evil under the proverbial rug, we would confront evil head on, we wouldn’t watch evil on TV or in movies, we wouldn’t ignore evil in society or politics, we would accept discipline and correction due o evil, we would keep ourselves from evil at every turn. We do not fear the LORD and therefore we do not hate evil!
Does this characterize your life?
Father, give me a loathing for evil. I want to see wickedness the way that you see it. So much so that I hate it and will not allow it in my life. Amen.
