So, if we, all believers collectively, are God’s spiritual house being fit together (1 Peter 2:5) then what is the purpose of this house?
We are God’s dwelling place on earth. The “place” where God chooses to interact with people! He wants to develop a relationship, personal and corporate, with us. And to be honest that is what prayer is all about. Developing a relationship with the God of the universe! This thought is awesome not only in its scope, but also in its simplicity!
In Psalm 69:9 it says, “zeal for your house consumes me”. This is quoted in John 2:17 and applied to Jesus when he drove out the money changers with their animals. The story in Matthew 21:13 also speaks of Jesus clearing the temple and he says, “My house will be a house of prayer.” Let’s cultivate a zeal to see God’s house become a true house of prayer!
Father, your desire is to be in relationship with me and with your church! Develop in me a zealousness for your house to become a house of prayer, a house where we seek you continually. And then turn that zeal into action. Amen.
